NEWS

— Η IDW Publishing ανακοίνωσε ότι τον Οκτώβρη θα ξεκινήσει η νέα ongoing σειρά 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, σε σενάριο του Steve Niles και σχέδιο του Sam Kieth (ΜΑΧΧ), ο οποίος είχε υπάρξει σχεδιαστής της σειράς 30 DAYS OF NIGHT: NIGHT AGAIN.  Παρότι έχουν προηγηθεί πολλές μίνι σειρές, αυτή είναι η πρώτη ongoing για το δημοφιλές vampire saga, που το 2007 μεταφέρθηκε με επιτυχία και στον κινηματογράφο.

— Ανακοινώθηκαν οι υποψηφιότητες για τα Harvey Awards 2011, τα βραβεία από δημιουργούς comics, για δημιουργούς comics. Φέτος, οι έξι υποψηφιότητες του webcomic THE GUTTERS, αποτελούν την -ίσως- μεγαλύτερη έκπληξη της λίστας. Η απονομή θα γίνει στις 20 Αυγούστου στο Baltimore Comic-Con και η ψηφοφορία θα παραμείνει ανοικτή μέχρι τις 6 Αυγούστου. Μέχρι τότε, μπορείτε να δείτε όλες τις υποψηφιότητες στην ιστοσελίδα της διοργάνωσης.

— Η Paramount Pictures και η Marvel Studios έδωσαν στους διανομείς ανά τον κόσμο την επιλογή να “κόψουν” τον τίτλο της ταινίας CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, σε THE FIRST AVENGER, φοβούμενοι τον αντιμερικανισμό μερίδας του κοινού. Τελικά μόνο τρεις χώρες θα προχωρήσουν στο τσεκούρεμα: Η Ρωσία, η Ουκρανία και η Νότια Κορέα. Όλα, πάντως, θα κρίθουν από τα εισιτήρια και όχι από τις εκτιμήσεις των διανομέων.

— Σύμφωνα με τη δημιουργό manga, Miyuki Noma, o Shinji Wada (SUKEBAN DEKA) “έφυγε” από τη ζωή στα 61 του χρόνια. Ο Wada ήταν ευρύτερα γνωστός για τη σειρά του SUKEBAN DEKA, σχετικά με μία έφηβη που πολεμά μυστικά το έγκλημα. Η σειρά ενέπνευσε ένα video anime project και αρκετές δημοφιλείς live-action σειρές και ταινίες. Άλλες δουλειές του Wada είναι τα KUGUTSUSHI RIN, PYGMALIO και CROWN (σε συνεργασία με τη σχεδιάστρια You Higuri).

“This is more of crime thriller noir as opposed to action adventure. The stories will be short, but at the same time larger than life. The art will be bolder, bigger — I have Ryan Winn on inks and the coloring will have a European flair to it with Tomeu Morey handling that task. I think it will lend itself to the suspenseful gritty crime stories I’m going to do.”

“I would just hope for a solid, non-embarrassing movie, first and foremost. Of course, beyond that I would be very happy it if they’d retain as much of the tone and the feel and the look of the comics as possible. Specifically I’d like to see them keep the main characters and group dynamic intact, retain the emotional moments and echo some of the darker aspects of the comic. …. Obviously they’re not going to show piles of drowned, dead puppies and kittens, or include any gore shots, but old Disney films had scary and disturbing elements to them and were made for all-ages audiences.”

“I don’t really see it as we’re trying to draw new readers in as much as I’m trying to write “Teen Titans” #1 in a way that someone doesn’t pick it up and feel like all the best stories about these characters were told 10 years ago. I think a first issue should, where possible, say ‘Hey! Hop on board! This is going to be awesome!’ I’d rather say that than, “Oh, hi! Sorry, you missed everything!”

“…today’s comic artists seem to be an odd extreme of too much exaggeration or looking too much like photographs. And storytelling skills only seem to be going backwards–it’s hard to tell what the spickle-spit’s going on sometimes! Truthfully, I’ll take my 60′s and 70′s comic artists anyday, as well as the classic illustrators from the 40′s and 50′s, who could draw like no tomorrow. Perhaps my getting back into comics may seem to clash with the way things are drawn now. With me, I always strived for the power of Jack Kirby combined with the cursive grace of Alex Raymond.”
